Why Maintenance Matters
Granite is highly stable, corrosion-resistant, and hard-wearing — but it’s not indestructible.
Dust, wear, thermal exposure, and accidental impacts can all affect accuracy.
Regular maintenance ensures:
- Consistent measurement precision
- Extended surface plate lifespan
- Reduced need for re-lapping and recalibration
1. Daily Cleaning Routine
Granite plates must be kept clean to maintain accuracy and protect against surface wear.
Use:
- A lint-free microfiber cloth
- Approved granite plate cleaner or isopropyl alcohol
- Avoid water, soap, or harsh chemicals
Procedure:
- Wipe down the surface before and after each use
- Remove dust, grease, and metal particles
- Let the plate dry completely before use
2. Prevent Surface Damage
Protect the surface from scratches, dents, or accidental misuse.
Do:
- Use dedicated tools for the granite plate only
- Cover the surface when not in use
- Ensure fixtures and workpieces are clean before placing
Don’t:
- Use granite plates as workbenches or for heavy hammering
- Slide metal tools across the surface
- Lean on the plate — body heat can affect micro-accuracy
